Interview with Operation 12
July 2006
We recently caught up with a group of
wakeboarders who are touring the country spreading some good news.
The group is called Operation 12. After
a great wakeboarding session, we sat down with Cory Williams and
Deacon Andrews to learn more about Operation 12. Here is an
interview with the group.
LakeAnnaBUZZ:
What is the purpose of your group?
Operation 12: We are an action sports ministry. We want to
use the talents that God gave us as a platform for sharing our
faith.
LakeAnnaBUZZ: What do you
typically do?
Operation 12: We put on wakeboarding and wakeskating
demonstrations, and then we share testimonies and get to know the
people that came to the demonstration.
LakeAnnaBUZZ: How did you choose
your name?
Operation 12: From Romans, Chapter 12. This passage in the
Bible talks about offering yourself as a living sacrifice. It talks
about the idea of giving our talents and abilities back to God.
First Corinthians Chapter 12 also talks about the church as being a
body. There are different parts of “the body” each having its own
function. Our wakeboarding is how we gather people to do our
ministry.
LakeAnnaBUZZ: How did you get started?
Operation 12: Three years ago the group was started in
Illinois by Cory and Jarrett. They moved to Florida and met Mike,
David and Clay. God was calling me (Cory) to ministry, so I started
working on a degree in youth ministry. I realized that I’d grown up
snowboarding, skateboarding and wakeboarding, and that God started
opening up doors for us to use these sports to make my ministry
happen. Our group has grown to include Mitch, Nate, Dustin and
Deacon. (Deacon is giving wakeboarding lessons through Freestyle
Board Shop at Lake Anna this summer.)
LakeAnnaBUZZ: How far does Operation 12 travel?
Operation 12: We have been to a Youth Sports Camp in
Washington State, Wisconsin, and various places on the East Coast.
We will visit any group that invites us, as long as it is
financially feasible. We enjoy meeting people that are excited about
what we do.
LakeAnnaBUZZ: How could someone contact you about your
ministry or to schedule a demonstration?
Operation 12: We have a web site -
Operation12.com.
LakeAnnaBUZZ: How do you finance your ministry?
Operation 12: We often get donations from groups we visit.
There are also a handful of churches that support us as North
American Missionaries.
